Taking care of dogs is not a kid’s game. It demands a high level of commitment since they have various needs that need to be addressed immediately.

It could be nerve-racking for first-time dog owners. To aid you on your journey, we’ve made a first-time dog owner guide. This includes the things you should buy and do to ensure that you will raise nothing but happy and healthy dogs. Ready your pens!

What are the first things that you should buy?

The first thing that you should buy for your dogs is a puppy food. The nutrients that you should be looking for in puppy food are human-grade whole grains for calories, rich amounts of protein for muscle development, and fatty acids for strengthening the immune system.

Introducing your dog to food supplements at an early age is also highly recommended. This way, you would have an ample amount of time to go through various brands and avoid any allergic reactions in the long run.

There are also several nutrients that you should look for in buying a dog multivitamins. The first is Vitamin B12. This will help your puppy develop a healthy nervous system which will make him focused and trainable.

Another nutrient is Vitamin A that improves the eyesight of puppies. Next is Vitamin E and Collagen that will help maintain the good condition of your dog’s skin. Lastly, you should ensure that your dog has a rich amount of Vitamin C as it will help repel serious infections and diseases.

The next thing that you should buy for your puppy is a dog carrier. Whatever the style is, hard-sided, soft-sided, or wearable dog backpack, your dog’s size should be placed as the primary consideration. It is ideal that your dog can slightly pace inside so he won’t get claustrophobic.

What are the first things that you should do?

Included on or first-time dog owner tips is pet-proofing your house. Remove everything fragile on the floor area and place it somewhere higher. You could also use fabric cover to your sofa, and other furniture as dogs tend to scratch on those.

Introducing your dog to a regular exercise routine will also be helpful. Not only does it boosts their immunity, but it also lessens the risk of obesity. Obesity can lead to serious hip and joint problems such as elbow dysplasia and arthritis when disregarded.

As a dog owner, you should also do your assignment and research about the food that might upset your dog’s stomach. Most of these foods are chocolates, grapes, raisins, and dairy products.

It will be helpful if you give them digestive supplements. This way, your dog’s stomach will be able to digest a minimal amount of the said foods. But that doesn’t mean that they could eat them already, so keeping an eye on your dog is still necessary.

Lastly, training them at an early age is recommended. Start off with poop training using litter boxes around your house. Once they manage to use them properly, you can train them to go outside or to the bathroom.

Raising a puppy could be hard, but it’s not impossible! Remember that you’re not just raising a pet but a family member or a long-time companion.
