Just like humans, our dogs need various vitamins and minerals to maintain optimal health. While Vitamins A, B, C, and zinc are some of the most popular nutrients needed by dogs, there's actually one kind of vitamin that has great benefits for your dog's health. And that is Resveratrol.

    What is Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is a nutrient produced by plants. They mostly use it to protect themselves from any external substance such as bacteria and fungi that may affect their overall health.

Just like with the plants, when transformed into a consumable nutrient, Resveratrol boosts both humans and animals’ immune systems. It repeals and foreign bodies that can possibly cause infections and diseases.

How does Resveratrol boost immune system?

According to WAG!, Resveratrol prompts the white blood cells to release more pro-inflammatory cytokines than usual. The said stimulation of white blood cells improves their ability to control, contain, and eventually kill foreign bodies that may cause disease.

The enhanced function of the body’s white blood cells leads to the overall improvement of the immune system as they’re its main building block.

What are the major benefits of Resveratrol to dogs?

White blood cells not only prevent minor infections or diseases but it can actually prevent cancer. In short, the right amount of Resveratrol can reduce the risk of breast, colon, and other dog cancers that ultimately lead to demise.

Furthermore, Resveratrol is believed to be the best treatment for canine lymphoma. Canine lymphoma is a type of systematic disease in which an increased number of lymphocytes are developed and circulated through the bloodstream. It leads to loss of appetite in dogs, lethargic nature, fever, and difficulty in breathing.

Aside from preventing these serious diseases, Resveratrol can also improve your dogs’ hip and joint, cardiovascular health, and even their neurological performance. All of these not only lead to a healthy body but an active and responsive one.

Where can your dog get Resveratrol?

Just like we had mentioned a while ago, Resveratrol is mostly found in plants such as grapes, berries, nuts, pistachios, and cocoa. As we all know, these kinds of foods aren’t compatible with most dog breeds. This is why the most common way on how your dog can get the right amount of Resveratrol is through multivitamins.

While some resveratrol supplements for dogs only provide Resveratrol alone, it is best that you find the supplement that has multiple vitamins and minerals, too. Not only will they bring more benefits, but some vitamins such as Vitamins C and E actually increase the performance of Resveratrol in your dog’s body.

It is also worth noting that Resveratrol could only be beneficial to your dogs with the right dosage. The recommended consumption in the form of dog supplements is 1.0 mg/kg.

So, if you’re thinking of upgrading your dog’s routine, we believe that it’s high time that you expose them to important nutrients such as Resveratrol. While we’re all boosting our immune system because of COVID-19, it’s time that we do the same with our dogs, too!
